A notice sheet earns its place by being checkable. This one is kept the way the small kennels it admires keep their own paperwork: dated, numbered, and corrected in the open.

The numbering

Every notice carries a cote, a column letter and a number: NO for the notices, TB for the breed, BG for the work below ground, KY for the kennel year. The number stays with the notice for good; a corrected notice keeps its number and takes a new date.

The marks on a notice

Under the title sits the dateline: when it was printed, who wrote it, who read it, and how long it runs. The margin holds the notice in order and lists the record it was checked against. A photograph carries a caption that says what the plate actually shows, never a line written for effect.

The rules the printing keeps

No claim that cannot be pointed to. No puppy prices, no waiting lists, no kennel advertising. Breed vocabulary is used the way the countries that made the dog use it: the miniature long-haired dog is a dvärgtax, the smallest is a kaninchen, and the dog itself is a dachshund, the badger dog, before it is anything else. Where two standards or two judges differ, the notice prints the difference rather than smoothing it over.
