The Earth Dog Sheet is a small publication kept by two desks: M. Ohlsson writes the breed columns, K. Sandell keeps the kennel columns and reads every notice before it is printed. The photographs are the sheet's own plates.

What the sheet is

An independent notice sheet for the miniature dachshund, and for the small kennel as a way of working. It prints four columns. Notices carries the dated things: litter announcements, results, the small news of the breed. The Breed reads the dog itself: the sizes, the three coats, the colours and the temperament the standard asks for. Below Ground follows the work the dog was built for: the badger's corridor, the tracking line, the working test. The Kennel Year walks the calendar of a small kennel from the mating to the valpträff.

What the sheet does not claim

It is not a kennel. It holds no litter, sells no puppy, keeps no waiting list and takes no stud enquiries. It is not a club and owes nothing to one. Where the record of the breed is thin, the notice says so rather than fill the space. The sheet admires the small serious kennel; it does not pretend to be one.

The name on the door

The sheet prints at knacky-knaves.com, an address with its own past: between 2005 and about 2013 it belonged to Kennel Knacky-Knave's, a Swedish family kennel in Västmanland that bred flatcoated retrievers from 1991 and long-haired miniature dachshunds from 2005. The sheet keeps the address in that spirit: a small desk, dogs kept as family members, notices dated and signed. It is not the same kennel and does not speak for it.
